Shipping firm James Fisher has taken delivery of a new LNG dual-fuel chemical and product tanker, according to Ship & Bunker. The vessel was designed by FKAB Marine Design and built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng in China.
Vessel Specifications
As reported by Ship & Bunker, the newbuild has a deadweight tonnage of 6,000 DWT and a cargo capacity of 4,500 cubic metres. FKAB Marine Design confirmed the delivery through a statement published on its website on April 2.
Wärtsilä Dual-Fuel Propulsion
The tanker is fitted with a dual-fuel engine from Wärtsilä, capable of operating on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. According to FKAB’s statement, the engine is a Wärtsilä 25 four-stroke unit that also supports liquefied biogas (LBG) as a fuel source.
FKAB described the engine’s capabilities in detail: “Propulsion is provided by a Wärtsilä 25 four-stroke LNG/LBG dual fuel engine able to run as aux engine during cargo discharging and other low load cases in harbour mode by using skip‐firing mode.”
The skip-firing mode enables the engine to operate as an auxiliary unit during cargo discharge operations and other low-load scenarios while the vessel is in harbour.
