Marine fuel supplier World Fuel Services (WFS) and West Coast Clean Fuels have jointly established a methanol bunkering capability for vessel owners and operators at ports across the United States, marking a significant development in the country’s alternative marine fuel infrastructure, according to Ship & Bunker.
First Delivery Completed in South Florida
The partnership recently completed its inaugural methanol bunker fuel delivery in South Florida, WFS confirmed in an email statement. The service offering encompasses United States Coast Guard (USCG)-approved procedures, trained personnel, and dedicated equipment — providing a structured and compliant framework for methanol bunkering operations at US ports.
Sole Approved Truck-to-Ship Operator in the US
West Coast Clean Fuels stated that it is currently the only operator in the United States holding approved truck-to-ship methanol bunkering procedures. As reported by Ship & Bunker, the capability has been several years in development, involving risk assessments, operational and emergency response planning, and sustained coordination with regulators. Notably, elements of this work have also helped shape recent regulatory guidance in the sector.
Ready to Support Nationwide Demand
Brad Hurwitz, Senior Vice President of Supply and Trading at World Fuel, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “World Fuel’s established global marine fuel platform allows us to deliver and transact methanol bunkering solutions efficiently and reliably to customers.”
Both companies have expressed readiness to scale methanol bunkering support across US ports as the shipping industry continues to explore and adopt lower-emission fuel alternatives.
