Week 14 Scrapping Report: Four Aging Vessels Sold for Demolition as Credit Risk Concerns Mount

Four vessels were confirmed sold for demolition during the week of April 2 to April 8, 2026, according to Ship & Bunker, drawing on data supplied by maritime intelligence platform VesselsValue.com. The activity spanned both the tanker and dry bulk segments, with all four vessels having been built in the 1990s.

Four Vessels Head to the Breakers

The demolition sales recorded during Week 14 are as follows:

  • Bow Faith – Handy tanker, built April 1997. Sold by Odfjell Tankers on April 7, 2026.
  • Eternal Joy – Handy bulker, built April 1997. Sold by Eternal Star Shipping on April 7, 2026.
  • Eternal Ace – Handy bulker, built May 1997. Sold by Eternal Star Shipping on April 6, 2026.
  • Biskra – Small tanker, built October 1993. Sold by Rec Bitumen on April 4, 2026.

Notably, Eternal Star Shipping accounted for two of the four transactions within a single 24-hour window, offloading both of its 1997-built handy bulkers in quick succession.

A Live Credit Risk for Bunker Suppliers

Ship & Bunker frames the weekly scrapping data in the context of bunker credit exposure. The publication points out that discovering a recently bunkered vessel has since been sold for scrap — while an invoice remains unpaid — is a genuine and growing risk for credit managers in the industry.

VesselsValue.com, which supplies the underlying intelligence, is used by a broad range of financial and maritime stakeholders, including commercial banks, shipowners, brokers, and investment firms, to monitor vessel values and fleet status.

For bunker suppliers, staying current with demolition activity offers a practical line of defence when managing outstanding receivables across an aging global fleet.
