Tsuneishi Completes Delivery of Second Methanol Dual-Fuel Kamsarmax Bulk Carrier

Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has delivered another methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmax bulk carrier, marking a continued push into alternative fuel-capable vessel construction, according to Ship & Bunker.

Brave Quest Handed Over from Philippine Yard

The vessel, named Brave Quest, was delivered from Tsuneishi’s Philippine facility, Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (CEBU), as confirmed through a statement published on the shipbuilder’s website on Wednesday, March 25. The 229-metre vessel has a gross tonnage of 45,500 GT.

Ship & Bunker reports that the ship’s dual-fuel engines are designed to operate on both methanol and conventional marine fuels, providing operational flexibility for the vessel across different bunkering environments.

Emissions Profile

Tsuneishi highlighted the environmental credentials of running on methanol in its statement. According to the shipbuilder, methanol fuel use can deliver:

  • Up to 80% reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx)
  • 99% reduction in sulfur oxides (SOx)
  • Approximately 10% reduction in carbon dioxide (CO₂)

All figures are measured against conventional fuel oil, as stated by Tsuneishi.

Owner Undisclosed

As reported by Ship & Bunker, Tsuneishi has not revealed the identity of the vessel’s new owner at this time.

Building on the World’s First

This delivery follows a notable milestone earlier this year, when Tsuneishi handed over what Ship & Bunker described as the world’s first dual-fuel methanol Kamsarmax bulk carrier — a vessel placed on charter with global commodities firm Cargill. The Brave Quest represents the shipbuilder’s continued activity in this growing segment of methanol-capable bulk carrier construction.
