Netherlands-based biomethanol producer Perpetual Next has selected Clarksons as its preferred brokerage partner for the maritime sector, according to Ship & Bunker. The collaboration aims to open international offtake agreements and broaden market access for Perpetual Next’s biomethanol projects through Clarksons’ extensive global shipping network.
A Strategic Move Into Global Markets
According to a press release cited by Ship & Bunker, the partnership will leverage Clarksons’ reach across Europe, Asia, and the United States — regions where Perpetual Next is already active and looking to scale. Jurre Hijman, CCO at Perpetual Next, was quoted as saying: “Clarksons has a very strong presence across Europe, Asia and the United States – markets where we are active and have significant growth ambitions.”
Clarksons, for its part, confirmed that its investment banking, green transition, and specialised products divisions will all play a role in the collaboration, providing financial solutions, offtake opportunities, and logistics services.
Growing Demand Driving the Partnership
Perpetual Next pointed to several converging trends fuelling interest in biomethanol as a marine fuel. As reported by Ship & Bunker, the company cited tightening decarbonisation regulations, rising investment in methanol-capable vessels, and growing bunkering infrastructure as key drivers behind the growing appetite for alternative fuels in the shipping industry.
Perpetual Next is currently developing large-scale biomethanol production facilities in the Netherlands, Estonia, and the United States. The company uses a standardised production model intended to be replicated across multiple global locations.
