Klaipeda Advances Green Methanol Bunkering Plans with New Vessel Concept

Lithuania’s Klaipeda Port Authority is moving forward with plans to introduce green methanol bunkering, unveiling a new bunkering vessel concept designed to serve future demand for the alternative fuel, according to Ship & Bunker.

From Concept to Vessel Design

The project has progressed beyond initial analysis into a tangible engineering concept. Ship & Bunker reports that Western Baltic Engineering, a division of the Western Shipyard Group, developed the technical specifications and design concept for a dedicated green methanol bunkering vessel.

The proposed vessel is intended for operation in shallow waters and along local bunkering routes, according to the report. It would carry a green methanol capacity of 800 mt and could deliver up to 250,000 mt of the fuel annually, Ship & Bunker states.

The port authority identified several potential customer groups for this future bunkering service, including regional vessels, passenger ships, ferries, and vessels supporting offshore wind farm operations, as reported by Ship & Bunker.
