Puma Energy, a subsidiary of commodity trading giant Trafigura, has begun supplying bunker fuels in Puerto Rico, according to Ship & Bunker. The company will operate through its local entity, Puerto Rico Energy LLC, marking its formal entry into the Caribbean island’s marine fuel market.
According to Ship & Bunker, Puma Energy announced the move in a LinkedIn post, stating that it can deliver bunker fuels across Puerto Rico using multiple methods, including barge, pipeline, and truck delivery. This multi-modal approach is designed to give the company broad coverage across the island’s ports.
On-Island Infrastructure Meets Global Sourcing
In its announcement, Puma Energy described its offering as a combination of local capability and international reach. As reported by Ship & Bunker, the company stated that “Puerto Rico Energy pairs on-island strength – terminal storage, island-wide delivery, and local commercial support – with international sourcing and a full range of high quality marine fuel grades.”
The company added that this setup means customers can rely on “one supplier for every port call in Puerto Rico,” according to the same source.
Puma Energy has been under Trafigura’s control since 2021, when the trading house took over the company, Ship & Bunker noted.
