Molgas Secures 10-Year LNG Bunkering License for Port of Bilbao

Molgas Energy Group has been granted a license to supply LNG bunkers to vessels at the Port of Bilbao in Spain, according to Ship & Bunker.

The license was awarded to the company’s marine business unit, Molgas Marine, which announced the news in a LinkedIn post on Friday, as reported by Ship & Bunker. The company described the authorization as covering a 10-year period and giving it “an active role in the future of maritime energy supply.”

Truck-to-Ship Operations

According to Ship & Bunker, the license permits Molgas Marine to supply LNG to ships at Bilbao through Truck-to-Ship (TTS) operations. In its LinkedIn statement, the company said the milestone “strengthens our ability to continue developing new supply opportunities across Spanish ports.”

The development builds on Molgas’s existing presence in the LNG bunkering sector. Ship & Bunker notes that the company completed a full acquisition of LNG bunker supplier Titan Clean Fuels last year, a move that expanded its footprint in the marine fuels market.

For vessel operators and charterers running LNG-fueled ships, or considering LNG as a marine fuel option, expanded supply infrastructure at ports like Bilbao can be a relevant factor in route and bunkering planning. A new licensed supplier offering truck-to-ship delivery adds another access point for LNG bunkers along Spanish and broader European coastal routes.

Bunker traders and port planners monitoring the growth of alternative fuel infrastructure in the Iberian Peninsula may also find this development relevant, as it reflects continued expansion of LNG bunkering capability in the region following Molgas’s earlier acquisition of Titan Clean Fuels. The source material does not provide further detail on pricing, volumes, or timing of the first supply operations at Bilbao, so the direct commercial impact for specific market participants is not yet clear.
