US Forces Claim Naval Blockade Has Fully Stopped Iran’s Maritime Trade

US military forces have declared that a naval blockade of Iranian ports has been successfully enforced, bringing all sea-bound trade to and from Iran to a complete standstill — all within less than 36 hours of the measure taking effect. The development was reported by Ship & Bunker on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Blockade Announced Sunday, Enforced From Monday

According to Ship & Bunker, the United States announced on Sunday that vessels calling at Iranian ports would be barred from departing the region starting Monday. The blockade was positioned outside the Strait of Hormuz.

By Tuesday evening, US Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a formal update confirming the measure had been put into full effect. Admiral Brad Cooper spoke on behalf of CENTCOM, stating: “A blockade of Iranian ports has been fully implemented as US forces maintain maritime superiority in the Middle East.”

All Sea Trade Into and Out of Iran Reportedly Halted

Admiral Cooper elaborated on the speed of the enforcement in the same statement: “In less than 36 hours since the blockade was implemented, US forces have completely halted trade going into and out of Iran by sea.”

The admiral also spoke to the broader economic weight of the action, noting that “an estimated 90% of Iran’s economy is fueled by international trade by sea.”

Ship & Bunker reports no further details on the scope of enforcement operations or any response from Iranian authorities at the time of publication.
