Energy firm Gasum has renewed its bio-LNG supply arrangement with ferry operator Wasaline, keeping the partnership alive through 2027, according to Ship & Bunker. The announcement was made via a statement published on Gasum’s website on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Aurora Botnia’s Hybrid Green Approach
At the centre of the agreement is Wasaline’s vessel, the Aurora Botnia, which operates on the cross-border route connecting Finland and Sweden. As Ship & Bunker reports, the ship runs on a dual-energy model — drawing on bio-LNG supplied by Gasum alongside battery power to reduce its environmental impact across the Baltic Sea.
A Cornerstone of Baltic Decarbonisation
Peter Ståhlberg, Managing Director of Wasaline, highlighted the role bio-LNG has played in the company’s sustainability journey. In the statement cited by Ship & Bunker, he noted that the fuel has been central to cutting the company’s environmental footprint and — in tandem with battery technology — to laying the groundwork for what he described as “the first credible green shipping corridor across the Baltic Sea.”
Ståhlberg also underscored the importance of supply reliability, stating that Gasum’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality bio-LNG is fundamental to Wasaline’s broader strategy, and expressed confidence in the continued cooperation moving forward.
Continued Collaboration
The extension reflects an ongoing commitment between the two companies to advance cleaner maritime operations in the region. No additional financial terms or supply volume figures were disclosed in the original report.
