Kuwait’s major Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery came under a drone attack in the early hours of Friday, April 3, triggering fires across several of its operational units, according to Ship & Bunker.
KPC Confirms the Attack
State-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) acknowledged the incident via a social media post, confirming that the facility — operated by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) — was deliberately targeted.
“KPC confirms that Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery, operated by KNPC, was targeted by a malicious drone attack early Friday, resulting in fires in several operational units,” the corporation stated. “Emergency response teams acted immediately to contain the situation, with no injuries reported.”
Air Quality Monitoring Underway
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, KPC stated that air quality around the refinery is being closely tracked in coordination with the Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA). As of the time of reporting, no negative environmental impact had been recorded.
A Refinery Already Under Pressure
The Mina Al-Ahmadi facility, which carries a processing capacity of 346,000 barrels per day, has faced heightened security concerns in recent weeks. According to Ship & Bunker, the refinery had also been targeted by Iran in the weeks prior to this latest incident.
No further operational details regarding the extent of damage or production disruptions were confirmed at the time of publication.
