Beijing Confirms Three Chinese Ships Safely Transited Strait of Hormuz

China’s Foreign Ministry has officially confirmed that three Chinese-flagged vessels successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, completing their passage with the help of unnamed parties — a development that signals cautious progress for commercial shipping in one of the world’s most strategically vital waterways, according to Ship & Bunker.

Official Confirmation from Beijing

At a press conference on Tuesday, March 31, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed the transits in response to reporter questions about earlier reports that two Cosco-operated container ships had exited the Gulf after clearing the Strait. Ning clarified that the number of vessels was in fact three, and that all had completed the passage following coordination with relevant parties.

Ning expressed gratitude for that assistance, stating: “We express appreciation for the assistance of relevant parties.”

The spokesperson further underscored the broader importance of the waterway, saying: “The Strait of Hormuz and waters nearby are an important route for international goods and energy trade.”

Call for an End to Hostilities

Alongside the confirmation, Ning issued a clear diplomatic appeal, as reported by Ship & Bunker: “China calls for an immediate end to hostilities to restore peace and stability in the Gulf.”

The statement comes amid a period of heightened concern in the region, with Ship & Bunker noting that several ships remain unable to exit the Strait due to fears of Iranian attacks.

Cosco Resumes Gulf Bookings

The confirmed transits coincide with a broader commercial signal from China’s largest shipping group. According to Ship & Bunker, Cosco Shipping Lines has recently announced it is once again accepting new bookings for general cargo shipments from the Far East to Gulf States — a move that suggests at least partial restoration of confidence in Gulf-bound trade lanes.
