LNG bunker supplier Titan Clean Fuels has secured an offtake agreement with green energy producer TURN2X to deliver e-methane to the maritime sector, with commercial supply targeted to begin in 2028, according to Ship & Bunker.
Spain-Based Production via Renewable Inputs
Under the terms of the agreement, TURN2X will manufacture ISCC-certified e-methane at its facility in Miajadas, Spain. As reported by Ship & Bunker, the production process draws on renewable power and biogenic CO2. Once produced, the fuel will be fed into the existing gas grid and distributed to key European ports, where Titan will handle bunkering operations for LNG-fuelled vessels.
Leveraging an Established Bunkering Network
Titan noted that its current bunkering infrastructure — spanning approximately 52 ports and backed by a fleet of seven vessels — provides a ready-made platform to scale e-methane deliveries as market demand develops. The companies stated that the agreement is designed to support an incremental energy transition, making use of existing LNG-compatible infrastructure already in service across the European fleet.
Energy Density and Regulatory Advantages
According to Ship & Bunker, e-methane offers around 1.6 times the energy density of methanol and roughly double that of ammonia, positioning it as a competitive drop-in alternative to conventional LNG without requiring vessel modifications.
On the regulatory side, Titan highlighted that ships bunkering e-methane would qualify for overcompliance status under FuelEU Maritime, opening access to the commercial benefits of banking and pooling emission credits — a potentially significant incentive for operators navigating the EU’s tightening emissions framework.
