Truck-to-Ship Operation by Baltkonta UAB Underscores Growing Role of Alternative Fuels in Baltic Shipping

TT-Line’s Ro-Pax passenger ferry, the Nils Holgersson, has completed an LNG bunkering call at Klaipeda Port in Lithuania, according to Ship & Bunker.

Truck-to-Ship Delivery

The bunkering was carried out as a truck-to-ship operation, with the LNG stem supplied by Baltkonta UAB, as Limarko Group announced via a LinkedIn post. Ship & Bunker reports that Baltkonta UAB, established in 2008, operates as part of the broader Limarko Group and specialises in truck-based LNG bunkering services at the Klaipeda facility.

Limarko Highlights Flexible Energy Solutions

Commenting on the completed operation, Limarko Group stated: “Projects like this highlight the growing role of alternative fuels in maritime transport and Baltkonta’s ability to deliver advanced, flexible energy solutions in demanding environments, including the supply of bio-LNG.”

Bio-LNG as a Drop-In Option

As noted by Ship & Bunker, bio-LNG is considered a cleaner alternative to conventional LNG and is compatible as a drop-in fuel for dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels, making it an accessible pathway for operators looking to reduce their carbon emissions without major modifications to existing propulsion systems.
