Singapore Prepares Landmark Maritime Blueprint
Singapore is working toward a comprehensive roadmap for its maritime sector, with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) currently developing what it calls the Maritime Singapore Master Plan. According to Ship & Bunker, the authority announced the initiative via a statement on its website, with the formal release of the plan slated for 2027.
As reported by Ship & Bunker, the master plan will lay out strategic priorities aimed at reinforcing Singapore’s standing as a premier global hub port and bolstering its reputation as an international maritime centre. Beyond trade and port operations, the blueprint will also address the expansion of Singapore’s footprint in maritime technology, innovation, and research.
Industry and Public Consultation Underway
To shape the plan, the MPA has indicated it will undertake a broad engagement process in the months ahead, reaching out to businesses, industry stakeholders, and members of the public to collect feedback. Ship & Bunker reports that an industry panel comprising senior business leaders has also been established to provide guidance on both the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.
Building on a Decade of Maritime Growth
The initiative comes on the back of notable momentum in Singapore’s maritime industry. According to Ship & Bunker, the authority noted that over the past five years, the sector’s growth has drawn more than 200 international shipping groups to Singapore and generated approximately 2,000 professional employment opportunities for local workers — milestones the master plan seeks to build upon.
